I am 6 weeks 1 day pregnant, i went to the doctor to get an transvaginal ultrasound but there was nothing but a yolk sac (4.5mm). is this normal?

Yes it can be: An ultrasound at 6 weeks that shows a yolk sac is pretty good. I have my patients in this situation repeat an ultrasound in a week to see if an embryo can be seen. Since no embryo was seen there is some chance of having a miscarriage.
