Different Idea: The goal of dentistry is restoration of function. If you will permit a philosophical approach with examples.
A simple amalgam is functional but does not look like a tooth. Tooth colored composite is a cosmetic filling that looks more like a tooth. It takes more skill to do it well & costs more. A porcelain inlay, onlay, or crown can come closer to looking like a tooth which i would call esthetic.

Well they should be!: Dentistry at its best is a medical service provided by artisans who attempt to replace and repair to natural beauty and function the damaged or defective structures of the mouth. Everything should be esthetic even if it only for cosmetic reasons.

Yes: Two words for the same thing. Neither denotes a specialty in dentistry. However many dentists devote their careers to this with advanced training.

Apples & Oranges : Cosmetic dentistry & orthodontics (braces, invisalign, etc) are different solutions for different problems; though sometimes ortho is cosmetic dentistry. Typically ortho takes longer, but preserves your natural teeth, moving them to a position where they will last longer. Consider cosmetic dentistry if your teeth have an undesirable shape/color. Talk further with your dds about options & timing.

Yes: Many dentists claim to be cosmetic but there is no real specialty in dentistry for this. Do your homework, ask your friends, and consult an organization such as the american academy of cosmetic dentistry (aacd). Members are generally more experienced.

They are not : Cosmetic and esthetic dentistry are different in definition, concept, and execution. Cosmetic dentistry is generally used to refer to any dental work that improves the appearance but not always the function. There are only 2 dental specialties that mainly focus on dental esthetic dentistry and cosmetics, Prosthodontists and Orthodontists.
Hope it helps.

Yes: Cosmetic and aesthetic dentistry refer to the same thing, which is the most life-like dental procedure/restoration as possible.
When the dentist performs Any dental procedure (including extractions), they should have an aesthetic "eye" to what they are trying to accomplish and how the final outcome will appear.

Yes: They're the same. Just different names. Regardless of what you call it, a dazzling smile will make you look younger, more attractive, and healthier. It will also give you great confidence and self esteem. Best of all, there's a solution for everyone, and it's often easier and less costly than you might think. If you are interested, get a consultation and see what's available for you.

Are cosmetic and esthetic dentistry the same? Or are there any other factors to consider before going under.

Are differences: Esthetic in dentistry circles tends to focus on appearance and restoring function as well.
Cosmetic tends to just focus on appearance improvement, which may be important to the individual, but the procedure is not designed to improve function.
If function improvement is a goal, then its benefits need to be weighed with the risks of going under.
