The liver: The hepatic system is the liver and all its blood vessels that interact with adjacent organs. Everything you ingest eventually goes through the liver.

Anesthesia: The hepatic system which includes the liver, produces enzymes which help metabolize many of the local anesthetics used in dentistry. Patients with significant liver disease may have a more difficult time with local anesthesia and are more prone to bleeding.
