Lyme disease: Acute lyme disease must be treated with at least 3 weeks of antibiotics. Chronic manifestations attributed to lyme disease seldom respond to antibiotic therapy and are considered by many to be immune system mediated symptoms, perhaps to products of the spirochaete that have remained in the body rather than to active infection.
