It is difficult to: Accept having one or more psychiatric conditions. But, in some ways, it can be reassuring to have an answer for why things are occurring in your life. Once, you have accepted a diagnosis it can be very unsettling to have the diagnosis changed. Just to clarify - thought disorder/ psychosis are part of schizoaffective disorder. It is actually beneficial to have the diagnosis nailed down further as >.

Doesn't have to be: Schizoaffective disorder essentially means that a person has both mood (depressive and/or manic) symptoms and psychotic symptoms, and that the psychotic symptoms (like thought disorder, delusions, or hallucinations) sometimes occur separately from the mood symptoms. It may require taking antidepressants and/or mood stabilizers as well as antipsychotics, but often possible to live a normal life.
