Deep Cleaning: You probably were diagnosed with a certain level of periodontal disease which means that you have deeper pockets around your teeth caused by calculus built up on your roots leading to bone loss and gum disease. The procedure involves removing this calculus and making sure that the roots are smooth in order to get healthy tissue to produce healthy pockets for you to maintain.

Deep vs standard: When you have a regular cleaning it is preventative in nature..Or there is early warning signs. When a deep cleaning becomes necessary you have neglected to adequately clean your teeth effectively and it will take more time and be more thorough than just polishing your teeth. Not everyone is able to follow the same schedule for maintenance. Our chemistry is different.
