Do : Do not fear-most deep cleanings are done with local anesthetic so that you should be totally comfortable. If you are concerned about discomfort after the procedure ask for a mild pain medication. There is also the possibility of some tooth sensitivity afterwards but your dentist can give you a prescription strength densitizing toothpaste to alleviate that.

In : In no way shape or form should a deep cleaning hurt. In my office that patient is completely numb before we even start the procedure. Afterward you may find that you are a little sore once the anesthesia wears off.
