Sedation used by dentist for deep cleaning and fillings?

Your Choice: Just like any other procedure that requires local anesthesia and otherwise would be uncomfrotable for the patient. Sedation is a great way to be relaxed and allow the provider to accomplish as many of the procedures in a little as time as possible and you have no pain or recolection of the process. It isn't required but a nice benefit.

Sometimes: Sometimes sedation makes it possible for a patient who would avoid dental treatment to have their treatment done. If this is the case, it is a big benefit, as fear of the dentist has cost so many people their teeth. Our goal is to help patients complete their treatment and keep their teeth. Sedation (relaxation) dentistry is helping patients to do just that.

Yes: Some dentists receive additional training in order to administer certain forms of light sedation for patients not wanting to receive treatment with local anesthesia or nitrous oxide alone. Often these dentists will advertise their services on the internet, and can be found with a simple google/bing search for "sedation dentistry".
