Natural killer cells: Natural killer cells, a cytotoxic lymphocyte, are critical to the innate immune system. . Nk cells provide rapid responses to virally infected cells and respond to tumor formation, acting at around 3 days after infection. It is doubtful that emotional stress will increase levels of nk cells, or that the response in women is different than in men.
