A member asked:

In a septo rhinoplasty, will i be getting my nose replaced with something artificial?

No: Most doctors use cartilage from the septum to help reshape your nose. Some doctors may use implants in complex cases but would inform you first. Get a consult to discuss your options.

Possibly: You need to ask the surgeon. Not necessarily, but artificial material can be used sometimes.

Informed consent: No, not for a straightforward procedure. The indications for using artificial material is to replace significant tissue loss especially cartilage/bone. See your surgeon again so that you can ascertain what exactly is being done - an informed consent for surgery means that you know what is being done and know the risks, benefits and limitations of what is being proposed.
