A 39-year-old member asked:

If you stop taking your meds, how long will it take for your body to reject a donated heart?

Usually within a day: Most antirejection medicines must be taken once or twice a day. Once stopped the drug levels will usually dip below the therapeutic threshold within a day and the rejection process will begin. The speed of progression and the severity is different for everyone and is dependent on how tolerant the patient has become to the transplanted organ.

A 35-year-old member asked:

I have random pulses on my body that are different than my heart, could this be a parasite?

Dr. Shaym Puppala
Internal Medicine 25 years experience
Unlikely: Some parasites can affect the lymphatics (filariasis), but I am not aware of any that affect the arteries. When there is an early heart beat, the heart may not have had time to fill with blood and the pulse may not be felt in that case, causing there to be a difference in heart rate vs pulse.Rhythmic muscle spasm can mimic a pulse, but the rate usually does not correlate at all with the heart rate.
