See your doctor: The top three causes of chronic cough are post nasal drip, laryngopharyngeal reflux and asthma. Post nasal drip and reflux may both be accompanied by a sore throat. Acute cough is likely to be caused by infection, most likely viral. Your doctor should be able to help you after a thorough history and physical exam.
