Strep or mono: It sounds like you have an infection which may be bacterial or viral. The 2 of most concern are streptococcus (which requires antibiotics to avoid serious complications) and mono (which has no specific treatment but should be closely monitored). Simple testing can distinguish these or rule them both out.

Cold,: viral pharyngitis and chest wall pain from coughing are probably what you have but to rule out vial pericarditis, strep throat and mono may need to be ruled out by physical exam and tests. See your doctor. I hope this helps.
