No reservoir 4 bile: The gallbladder normally serves to store bile that is made continuously from the liver. After a meal, the gallbladder contracts, ejecting bile into the intestine, to aid in digestion. When the gallbladder is removed, the bile no longer is stored but excreted continuously into the intestine. If there is no food, the bile can be irritating and cause diarrhea. Over time, this should improve

Thought to: be caused by bile irritation of intestines. Trial of a bile binding agent such as cholestyramine MIGHT be helpful. Most cases resolve without treatment. Ask your doctor for specific advice in your case.

Unsure: sine people get diarrhea for a few weeks after gallbladder removal. It is called post-cholecystectomy syndrome and resolves over time. Some studies indicate it is more common in women. Some believe it is due to a constant trickle of while experienced by the: instead of a normal bonus from the gallbladder. If it is chronic should not be due to the surgery and you may need a colonoscopy
