How do i know if i have to pay for filling in a small tooth chip?

Why wouldn't you pay: Which ever dentist you see is going to have to examine you, determine the best way to restore your tooth, and then provide treatment. This uses both time and materials. Why wouldn't you pay for this? If your car had a small dent you wouldn't expect the body shop to fix it for nothing.
