Sella Turcica tumors: The optic nerve chiasm crosses over the area at the base of the skull called the sella turcica (or pituitary fossa). Tumors arising from this area can put pressure on the optic chiasm and cause visual field defects. By far the most common are pituitary Adenomas. Other tumors in this area are craniopharyngioma, Rathke's cysts, germinoma, and Meningioma.
