A member asked:

Is there a neural pathway of oxytocin from the brain to the heart? i read that there are ot receptors in rat and human hearts.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Oxytocin & the heart: The oxytocin receptor (OXTR) has been found to be expressed in heart cells of other mammals and is thought to be involved in the development of the human heart. Oxytocin is known to be transported via the nerve cell axons. Research is still underway in this field. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/gene/5021 , http://www.nextprot.org/db/entry/NX_P30559/expression
