Yes but....: There is a condition known as pseudofolliculitis barbae (pfb) which can look like an infection (folliculitis). Pfb or shaving bumps is a foreign body inflammatory reaction involving papules and pustules from shaving. Pustules and abscess formation can also occur from secondary infection. The cause of PFB is ingrown hairs from shaving too close. African americans are at a higher risk for pfb.
