Yes: Emergency medicine doctors do procedures in the er, but do not operate on patients. Trauma surgeons are general surgeons who may or may not have done some extra training to care for critically ill patients. They most definitely operate and are called to the er when complex trauma patients arrive in order to direct their care, including both resuscitation and surgery if indicated.
