Hmm : Not exactly clear what that symptom means, but you should see an ENT about it who can look at your voice box and diagnose the problem. Might be sleep apnea or acid reflux possibly.

TMJ: It may be that you are grinding or clenching your teeth. This excessive activity could cause the muscles of your throat to spasm/constrict. Forcing air through the area can help to disrupt the spasms.
