No.: The lunula is a crescent shaped white patch at the base of the fingernail and represents the top-most portion of the matrix which is the tissue from which the entire nail grows. Some pathologic states (diseases) accompany changes within the lunula and can indicate systemic disease but it is never a test to be utilized in and of itself to give a proper diagnosis.
