Gluten: Gluten allergy is detected and tested by an allergist. And confirmed by biopsies by a gastroenterologist. Sensitivity is a more vague term and cannot be tested.

Integrative Medicine: I agree with my colleague about gluten allergy vs sensitivity. But the latter can be tested for via the process of an elimination diet, with gradual re-introduction of potentially offending foods. And symptoms that arise (abdominal cramping, diarrhea, nausea, joint swelling, lethargy, foggy thinking, etc) could be related -- even days after eating the food. An integrative medicine doc can help.
