Orapred: It is a bit much especially if she is not on a declining dose level. However, if she is exhibiting respiratory distress, the dosage may be justified.

You are correct: Short courses of oral steroids is indeed usually standardized at 1-2 mg/kg/day for 5 days. The higher dose prescribed is not necessarily cause major issues other than insomnia-more fussy or increased appetite. Talk with you doctor to adjust to 2mg/kg/day if you feel suspicious about the efficacy of the higher prescribed dose.
