Foot: Without you in front of any of us it is impossible to know if it is callous or not. The first thing you need to do is see your podiatrist for an evaluation and diagnosis. Possibilities here are callous , stress fracture( a reach, but possible) , bursitis , plantar fasciitis , tendonitis to name a few.

Cushioning: It could be a lot of different things, but try additional cushioning in your shoes first. If the problem persists, see a local podiatrist. I like spenco polysorb cross-trainer replacement insoles for what you describe.
