Possibly: Tension can create muscle spasm in the neck and scalp. This tightness causes pain. The other possible problem may be irritation of the occipital nerve which causes pain at the back of the head/neck. I advise my patients to identify what triggers the onset of tension and look for ways to relieve it or at least decrease it. Prolonged periods of work without breaks is a common source of tension.
