Aging is #1: Degenerative disc disease occurs commonly with age. However, it can be made worse earlier with many things, including heavy labor, trauma, weak core/ abdominals, continued dehydration, increased weight, and smoking just to name a few. Physical therapy, proper mechanics, exercise and core strengthening can slow the degeneration. Some people benefit from inversion tables as well.
