No: Before the internet, people with hypochondirasis were reading books, it is not that these sites create hypochondriacs, it is that someone with this illness has greater access to medical information than ever before. In the past a magazine would suffice.

Can b a problem: It's like reading the side effects of meds & then getting them--lots of helpful information out there but for suggestible individuals can cause problems.
