Maybe: Your roommate may have a generalized anxiety disorder or depression. If you have noticed a change in her behavior that is not related to a short term life stressor (a breakup for instance), she made need psychiatric help. Also, if she has talked of hurting herself or others, she needs immediate help.

She needs evaluation: Your roommate sounds very uncomfortable, and needs an urgent evaluation with her physician and very probably a psychiatrist as well. Barely leaving one's room can occur with several kinds of problems, and one needs to understand what's happening so that the best treatments can be offered. Hypochondriasis is possible, but one would need to clarify any other symptoms as well.
