Pleurisy?: Chest pain with taking a deep breath suggests possible pleurisy (pain from inflammation of the lungs outer lining). However, although one has no fever, it could be due to early bronchitis or tacheitis (early inflammation of the large airways of the lung). Less common might be pain from a rib fracture.

Costochondritis: Often of viral origon the cartillage along the breastbone can become sore. Usually we make sure your heart and lungs are good and look for tenderness in the anterior chest to the side of the breastbone. Take some Motrin or aleve (naproxen) to help calm it down.
