Can someone with diabetes have bariatric surgery?

Should have surgery!: Diabetes is a terrible disease. It is the leading cause of adult blindness, amputation, kidney failure, and neuropathy. Also affects vascular system and others. If bmi is over 35 and diabetic, your doctor should suggest bariatric surgery as a potential long term "cure" for this condition.

Absolutely!: Not only can they have surgery, but if you have type ii diabetes and your body mass index is over 35 gastric bypass procedures like the roux-en-y and mini-gastric bypass will likely cure or significantly improve your diabetes. Immediately after surgery i take all of my diabetic patients off of their diabetes meds including insulin. 85% of them never need those meds again!

Yes : The metabolic procedures like the sleeve, bypass or duodenal switch are more effective at treating diabetes than medications. Provided you meet the weight requirement, which is a bmi of 35 if you have diabetes. Roughly 75 pounds overweight.
