Not unusual: A number of patients (15-20%) will have urine ketones in response to the stress of surgery alone. In addition, the post op period is commonly one of relative starvation in which your body utilizes ketones as an alternate source of fuel. Consider rechecking your blood sugar and ketones after you have been on a regular diet for 72 hours or more.
