Enzyme Inhibition.: All of the selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors are metabolized in the liver. The enzyme system involved is called the p450.During metabolism in liver, ssris inhibit different sub- enzymes, for example, 2d6, 3a1, 3a2, 2d5, etc., leading to decrease in metabolism of other medications, causing increase in their serum levels. Zoloft (sertraline) is the safest ; Prozac ; Celexa are the least safe among ssris.
