Yes: Multiple causes: simple dry nasal mucosa and irritation and picking at it. Colds are irritation and can cause bleeding areas. High blood pressure and a bunch of other things use nasal saline spray twice daily. Do not put anything in your nostrils. If reoccurs see ent.

Not necessarily: If concerned go see an ent. He can usually find the spot and stop it with cauterization. This can prevent the need for nasal packing . If you take aspirin, stop. If you've been taking a lot of Ibuprofen it might help to stop that. This time of year the nose gets dry, try using a nasal saline gel spray in your nose, and maybe a netti pot or sinus rinse bottle to keep the nasal mucosa moist.
