Hello doctors, what does it mean when your joints lock up?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It means that there: Is something caught between the bones {forming the joint, eg femur (thigh) and leg (tibia)}. It could be a torn meniscus (cartilage) or a loose body (piece of bone/cartilage) causing acute severe pain. The joint locks in about 20-30 degrees of bend (flexion) so that one is not able to extend (straighten) the joint.
