Depends on cause: Ear pain is often caused by problems in the jaw or jaw joint. We call this referred ear pain or referred otalgia. If your hearing is normal and it doesn't hurt when you touch your outer ear it most likely is from your jaw and a soft diet, antiinflammatories and ice are helpful. If you do have hearing loss it may be a mid ear infection and oral antibiotics are good. Outer infection needs drops.
