Moving your jaw straightens the Eustachian tube & lets air into the middle ear space. It would also likely occur if you yawned. It is a natural event, not a defect or illness. It likely occurs more after a cold or when allergies flare. If you can accept it as normal and common maybe, you can move past the issue. I know of no reliable way to stop it.

If you put earplugs on, and don't hear the crackle sound, than you may stop moving your jaw, since it is a habit.
