General Dentist: A general dentist is familiar with all phases of dentistry. He/she will refer you to the proper specialist if necessary.

Checkup time: A general dentist will likely be the choice, depending on your age. Young children could see a pedodontist. But both would be well trained to recognize and treat a vast array of dental needs.Those needs they choose not to treat or are not as confident to treat will be referred to the proper specialist to handle. Some patients may choose to see a periodontist but they do not do fillings and such.
