Valvar regurgitation: Valvar regurgitation generally results in a volume load on the side of the heart experiencing the regurgitant valve. Eventually this leads to dilation and loss of contractility resulting in congestive heart failure. The process can be sudden if acute valvar regurgitation but typically takes years.
