13year old son has had severe recurrent abdominal pain for over a year. cant find cause. only clue in blood work is alkaline phosphatase. 514?

Not helpful: All growing kids have high alkaline phosphatase in this range (bone growth) and I am surprised that you have not been told this yet. The causes that get missed a lot include atypical presentations of celiac sprue, crohn's, whipple's, lactose intolerance, food allergy, and (the most hated) porphyria. Glad he's got parents who are resourceful. Stay on it.

Usually not serious: Recurrent abdominal pain in children is pretty common yet only small percentage of these sufferers have organic cause(s), e.g., inflammatory bowel disease. There are a few warning signs: presence of vomiting or diarrhea, persistent localized abdominal pain, weight loss, pain causing child to wake up from sleep.
