Oral Cancer: Unfortunately, by the time a patient becomes aware of symptoms related to oral cancer on their own, it's potentially very serious. Therefore, do not smoke or drink alcohol excessively (two leading causes) and see a dentist every 6 months for a thorough head and neck soft tissue exam. Any lesion that remains more than 2 weeks needs to be evaluated by an oral surgeon.
