Yes but...: Why? If you have a sore it may be better to wait until it has healed. If you hope to ease the discomfort of an injection the topical anesthetic a dentist uses works better.

Topical numbing: You could and many dentists use an even more potent gel or topical anesthetic before injection or for work that does not require profound numbness. You should check to see if your dentist can provide this for you.
