Depends: How long ago was it done? I recommend patients wait 2-3 days before salt water rinsing and orajel etc.as it can dislodge the blood clot needed for healing resulting in a dry socket. Try to follow your postop instructions to a tee.

Are you in pain ?: If so, then an analgesic would be better. Try an OTC NSAID for pain relief.

Yes, orajel is safe: Orajel can temporarily relieve pain, but wears off quickly. You should follow up with your dentist to get this checked.
