Yes: If the tooth has an abscess and is unrestorable, then it needs to be extracted. The infection can spread and cause many other health problems.

Depends: Depends upon the cause. If it is a root canal issue - the pulpal tissue is dying or dead - causing the problem, then you may be able to save the tooth. If it is a bone/gum tissue problem, then the liklihood of saving the tooth is less. Sometimes it can be both (combined lesion) and may still be saved. See your periodontist and endodontist (specialists in gum tissue and root canals) for evaluation.

Yes: If you have been to a dentist and they told you that the abcessed tooth needs to me extracted, it needs to be done. Leaving the tooth as is will only worsen the infection with time.

Extremely important: would you allow a serious infection anywhere else in your body to go untreated? The infection will not self-correct and if left untreated can damage other organ systems. Follow your Dentist's expert advice.

See your dentist: right away! to address the abcess and stop the spread of infection.
