Whatever suits Dad!: The technigue you are referring to is "skin to skin" contact. It is known as kangaroo care. It is done immediately after birth (if stable) and the father part was invented in columbia in 1979 for low birth weight infants. The body heat and contact with a breathing/heart beating parent enhances bonding, breastfeeding and milk production.
