Does anybody know what an optometrist should inform you of when you have your eyes examined?

Yes but: An optometrist is not a real doctor like an ophthalmologist. They can effectively treat eyeglass and contact lens needs but only an ophthalmolgist can deal the best with eye disease and is the only one to perform surgery. What optometrists will tell you is to purchase glasses and contacts and tell you to come back often (for the fee) so they can sell you more stuff.
