Deep sedation: Deep sedation/analgesia is induced in a dose-response manner. While you are sedated, your vital function will not change, you are breathing on your own, with some oxygen supplement inhalation. The monitoring by anesthesiologist makes it very predictable and comfortable for a patient.

Institution rule: There are rules in an institution by which doctors abide in either real sedation or conscious sedation. Most of them would include pain medicine and an amnesic like benzodiazepine but again there are guidelines we follow. Ask your doctor as they can explain all these.
