A member asked:

Endoscopy: better to have it done without sedation or better with sedation?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Either, your choice: Upper GI endoscopy exams the oral cavity, esophagus, stomach, and duodenum. Most inflammatory, structural, infectious, dysplastic (cancer), and motility disorders of these organs are detectable with endoscopy. The value of the procedure however is in its therapeutic potention--dilation, stop bleeding, minor surgery (even notes), and much more. I think you will prefer the procedure under sedation.
