A member asked:

I got an ultrasound done on my pelvic area and they couldn't find or see my left ovarie how can this happen?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Common: It is a pretty common and normal occurrence for an ovary to be undetectable by ultrasound on occasion. Under normal conditions, an ovary is quite small and it can be obscured by other things such as part of the intestines. Other variables that can affect visualization of an ovary include the technician performing the exam as well as whether it was an external or transvaginal ultrasound.
