Injury: That depends on the injury . Some doc's don't believe in doing anything but a splint for fractures. If none of this was explained to you either revisit the doc or seek another opinion.

I would recommend : A xray. If it is fractured it would be wise to know if there is an intraarticular fracture or dislocation.
