Depends: Depends on what is triggering your asthma. If you have "exercise induced" asthma/bronchospasm, then you should be asthma free if you use an albuterol inhaler 20 min before a game. If your asthma is triggered by allergens an infection, then those triggers need to be addressed before you will be asthma free. If you work with your doc, you should be able to go back to sports without any symptoms!

Not asthma free but: The asthma might be well controlled with the inhalers. If you are 39, you are not likely to grow out of the asthma at this point. But with the proper medication, this should be well controlled for you and hopefully not be alimiting factor for you.
